It turns out that the highlights reel – the short and summarised version of a set of accomplishments – is exactly that – a set of short and summarised accomplishments.
What it fails to include are the trials and tribulations, the tests of one’s patience and endurance. It fails to record the highs and lows, the successful and unsuccessful. And it omits the countless tests of faith required before the achievement of anything.
Instead the highlights reel shows us all the best bits – the masterful moves punctuating successful highs.
The reality is very different.
But then again, when you have countless highlight reels simultaneously playing online through news feeds and posts, it’s easy to forget that they don’t represent reality, but an edited version of it.
Don’t confuse the highlights reel with reality.
